Design of Evidence-Based Blended Learning in Higher Education

  • Give students assignments in which the students have to give feedback to each other (peer feedback). Use rubrics as evaluation criteria. The rubrics can be made by the teacher or the students with experience in peer evaluation.

  • Students should be able and willing to provide a constructive assessment to each other. To achieve this, students should feel comfortable in the group.

  • An important aspect is that you have to demonstrate to the student how to evaluate their fellow students to ensure effective feedback is given. The teacher needs to organise some special assignments for this and give an example of an assessment.

  • The peer evaluation can be organised through the VLE.

  • In addition to the peer evaluation, the feedback of the teacher is important. (S)he can give feedback via a forum, a short video film, an online lesson, or directly F2F. The feedback of the teacher and peer combined will bring the evaluation to a higher (theoretical) level.
