Create interactive content with the freeware program H5P
Gamification refers to using technological innovations to ‘gamify’ learning by borrowing aspects of game courses and lessons. The idea behind gamification is to increase students’ learning by engaging them more actively in higher education.
H5P makes it easy to create interactive content by providing a range of content types for various pedagogical needs. All kinds of exciting and useful pedagogical situations can be made with the help of H5P. For example, course presentations, interactive videos, memory games, various MC and essay questions with feedback options, collage, dialogue cards, drag and drop, multiple hotspots, image sequencing, et cetera.
Teachers can prepare short E-learning courses by themselves, prepare necessary extra explanations of complex subjects or use all kinds of pedagogical activities using ICT. These activities can be presented through a digital learning environment or websites.
H5P is an open-source, community-driven project. In the library, there are already around 35 possibilities. The purpose of the project is to develop more of these didactical activities.
You can create interactive content by adding the H5P plugin to WordPress, Moodle or Drupal sites, but you can try it out directly on H5P.org first. H5P is not very difficult to use.
Some examples of using H5P can be found on the website Blended Learning.
