Design of Evidence-Based Blended Learning in Higher Education

Pedagogy
  1. Theory and practice should be integrated.
  2. Practical activities are organised because they offer the students unique learning experiences which cannot be achieved in lectures or group work.
  3. Options for teaching and learning activities in practical work range from cookery book practical work to assignments with an open end.
  4. Research shows that undergraduate research learning activities motivate students. Students learn competencies important for research.
  5. A possible didactic approach is (1) theory and demo on video — (2) demonstration — (3) practice in small groups- discussion in the classroom.
  6. Online or tutor video offers new opportunities for observational learning: learning by watching someone perform a skill. Observational learning is an effective form of instruction for learners with little or no knowledge of a learning task.
